Brazil Nut Test Kit for On-Site Detection

Brazil nuts are the nuts of trees that belong to the botanical family Lecythidaceae. These edible nuts are becoming increasingly popular all over the world. They are mostly consumed directly and are a common ingredient in mixed nuts, cereals and bakeries.

Tree nuts are considered one of the most frequent causes of food allergy, with brazil nut allergy being among them. Brazil nuts are generally considered very healthy due to their high content of unsaturated fatty acids. But unfortunately, they also contain proteins known to potentially cause allergic reactions. Allergic reactions to brazil nuts can develop at any age.

Allergic individuals must strictly avoid the consumption of brazil nuts or products that contain brazil nuts.
As cross contamination during food production processes may occur, the food industry is required to use sensitive test kits to ensure their products meet the highest levels of food safety.

In order to protect consumers from the potentially fatal consequences of brazil nut consumption, allergen labelling is required by law in many countries. Brazil nuts, along with other tree nuts, are regulated for example in the EU (Regulation (EU) No 1169/201) or the U.S. (FDA – FALCPA 2004).
