Coconut Testing Solutions 
for Lab and On-Site Detection

Coconuts are drupes that come from the coconut tree (Cocos nucifera), a palm tree that thrives in hot and wet climates across the globe. Despite their name, coconuts are not tree nuts and are often mistakenly classified as such. Over 70% of the world's coconut production comes from tropical regions in Asia.

Coconut allergies are relatively rare, with only a few documented cases. However, the significance of coconut as an allergen source has increased with the FDA recognizing it as a tree nut for labeling purposes.

Despite its low prevalence, all documented cases of coconut allergy have involved anaphylactic reactions, which can be life-threatening if not promptly and properly treated. Some cross-reactivity has been observed between coconuts and tree nuts, including almonds, hazelnuts, macadamias, and walnuts. However, individuals with tree nut allergies do not show a notably higher propensity to be allergic to coconuts. Lentils represent another documented cross-reactivity for those with coconut allergies.
