Hazelnut Test Kits for Lab and On-Site Detection
Hazelnuts are the nuts of trees that belong to the genus Corylus. Tree nuts are considered one of the most frequent causes of food allergy, with hazelnut allergy being among them. Allergic reactions to hazelnuts can develop at any age. Unlike other food allergies, hazelnut allergies continue past adolescence.
Hazelnut allergy is quite common in Europe and the United States. The severeness of the allergic reaction can vary significantly and is often linked to an allergy to birch pollen.
Allergic individuals must strictly avoid the consumption of hazelnuts or hazelnut-containing food. As cross contamination during food production processes may occur, the food industry is required to use sensitive test kits to ensure their products meet the highest levels of food safety.
Mandatory labeling of tree nuts in food
To protect consumers from the potentially fatal consequences of hazelnut consumption, allergen labelling is required by law in many countries. Hazelnuts, along with other tree nuts, are regulated by Regulation (EU) No 1169/201 or
U.S. FDA – FALCPA 2004.
Fast and highly sensitive hazelnut analysis
The Romer Labs hazelnut test kit portfolio covers ELISAs and LFDs for the quantitative and qualitative analysis of hazelnuts in environmental samples, rinse waters and finished food products.

AgraStrip®
Lateral Flow Devices
The AgraStrip® Hazelnut test kit is a ready-to-use lateral flow device (LFD) for on-site testing. This immunological test allows a rapid analysis of a wide range of food samples within only 11 minutes (including extraction).
AgraStrip® LFDs represent a fast and simple qualitative strip test method in which specific antibodies labeled with colloidal gold are used for visual color development at a test and control zone.
The test kit comes complete with strips, antibody coated incubation vials, extraction tubes, an extraction buffer, surface swabs and additional accessories.

AgraQuant®
ELISA Tests
The AgraQuant® Hazelnut test kit is an accurate and reliable enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in a quantitative format. Results are measured with a specific ELISA reader, such as the StatFax® or the BioTek® reader.
The AgraQuant® Plus Hazelnut test kit is specifically designed for a more efficient workflow. This test format uses unique extraction capsules that speed up the extraction of allergenic proteins, especially from processed matrices, to barely 1 minute.
Incubation times of the assay are reduced to 3 x 10 minutes, leading to a total assay time of 30 minutes for up to 38 samples.
Both AgraQuant® Hazelnut test kits are sandwich ELISAs in a ready-to-use format to reduce handling errors and come with a set of 5 standards, extraction solution /capsules, an antibody coated plate, a wash buffer, a conjugate, a substrate and a stop solution.
