We spend 50% less hands-on time running RapidChek® as compared to our previous method. This helped us to acquire new clients and projects and grow our business. - Kathryn Barickman, Lab Analyst, Endyne, Inc.

Kathryn Barickman, Lab Analyst at Endyne, tells her story…

Our previous ELISA method for Salmonella detection required quite a bit of hands-on time and the results were often ambiguous - the positive result was a particular shade of green, while a paler shade of green was considered negative. To make matters worse, we had clients requiring weekend analyses and we were looking for ways to avoid an analyst having to come in twice in one day for transfers as well as going through a multi-step time consuming assay procedure to obtain results.

By implementing RapidChek® we could run tests with much less hands-on time and fewer transfers (in the case of RapidChek® Listeria, none). This gave us more flexibility for weekend samples and enabled us to train analysts for weekend coverage with greater ease. RapidChek® comes packaged with all the supplies we need (including media). The strips are easy to read and don’t require a lot of space or special storage conditions. The products have a long shelf life and we can purchase items in bulk quantity.

The increased flexibility of RapidChek® methods allows us at Endyne to accommodate testing during the weekends and over holidays. We have more time available for other analyses, both routine and special projects. Romer Labs has helped us to process more samples through the lab, which translates to new clients and projects.

Kathryn Barickman holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental and Forest Biology from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry and did microbiological work in wood decay before coming to work at Endyne in 2005. She lives with her husband who is a librarian at the University of Vermont.
